MRCP2-0541
You are requested to assess a patient on the surgical ward due to nursing concerns. The patient is a 22-year-old male who is typically healthy and not taking any medications. He was admitted two days ago for suspected appendicitis and has been receiving conservative treatment. However, this morning, his nurse found him unresponsive and stiff.
The current management plan from the surgical team includes intravenous metronidazole, amoxicillin, and gentamicin, as well as regular paracetamol, oramorph, metoclopramide, and cyclizine for symptom control.
During your examination, you observe that the patient’s neck is in a fixed extension, with his eyes fixed and deviated to the left. His jaw is tightly clenched, and his limbs are rigid. His vital signs are stable.
What immediate medical interventions should be administered in this scenario?
