MRCP2-2913
A 21-year-old Burmese man presents to Clinic with severe persistent diarrhoea, weight loss, and a rash over his trunk. He recently returned from a trip to his small village in Burma. He is HIV positive and has positive serology for strongyloides. The GP had previously prescribed ciprofloxacin which has made very little difference to his symptoms. Stool microscopy & culture showed no growth.
What is the most appropriate initial treatment for strongyloides?
