Management of ALD involves providing advice on reducing alcohol intake, administering thiamine to prevent Wernicke’s encephalopathy, and addressing withdrawal symptoms with benzodiazepines. A syringe containing 1% lidocaine is prepared, and the needle is inserted at the base of the finger from a dorsal approach. Lidocaine is infiltrated under the skin, and the needle is then advanced towards the palmar aspect of the finger to inject more lidocaine. This process is repeated on the opposite side of the finger.
It is important not to use lidocaine with adrenaline for this procedure, as it may cause constriction and ischemia of the digital artery.
