FRCA Primary Overview
The FRCA (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists) examinations test the skills, knowledge and behaviour of doctors in training. The FRCA consists of two parts: Primary examinations (aligned to the core level training curriculum) and Final examinations (aligned to the intermediate level training curriculum).
The Primary FRCA has three components: an MCQ examination (covered here), an OSCE (16–19 stations), and a Structured Oral Examination (SOE).FRCA Primary Details

Eligibility & Requirements
- Registered with the GMC or other National Medical Council.
- Currently registered with the RCoA as a UK trainee in Anaesthesia, ACCS, Foundation, ICM, or as an Anaesthetist with the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland.
- OR registered with the College in a recognised membership category (not affiliated).
- OR has previously been granted Temporary Examination Eligibility (TEE).
- Has not exceeded the maximum of six attempts.
