FRCOphth Part 1 Overview

The FRCOphth Part 1 Examination assesses a candidate's understanding of patient investigations and knowledge of basic and clinical sciences relevant to ophthalmology. It is a prerequisite for progression in ophthalmic specialist training.

Based on the learning outcomes from the first two years of the Ophthalmic Specialist Training (OST) curriculum, the exam covers basic sciences, theoretical optics, and some pathology.
